Skincare trends come and go, and the latest hitting the internet is supplementing with beef liver. You read that right. Beef liver is one of the most nutritionally dense foods you can eat. It is high in glycine and copper as well as trace minerals and most importantly, vitamin A (retinol). The amount of nutrition packed into beef liver is insane. I started reading about this trend about six months ago and it really piqued my interest. I started looking into the benefits of beef liver and why people were raving about it and I knew I had to try it.
A little background: we are all obsessed with anti-aging. I think it just comes with the value our society places on youth; whether that is a good or bad thing is a philosophical debate for another day. However, personally I knew I wanted to start incorporating more retinol into my routine for anti-aging benefits. I was already applying it topically, and I was very interested in the internal benefits of it. After doing some research I determined this was very high quality and the reviews were pretty incredible. I started taking it and within two weeks I instantly saw my overall skin health improve. My skin looked plumper, healthier, and I had random people commenting out of the blue to me how lovely my skin looked (the ultimate test a product is working is if strangers notice). It was wild. I was pretty consistent taking the first bottle, but when it ran out I forgot to reorder. Within a week I started noticing my skin looking sallow and just dull and tired (having a baby I am sure added to this haha). I ordered more and started taking it again, and saw the same results happening after a couple weeks again. Now, I know this is all anecdotal, but I truly haven’t seen my skin improve from a supplement this drastically. It should be noted as well, this is not medical advice, and you should always be checking with your health care provider before adding any supplement to your diet.
If you’re a nerd like me and interested in the complete vitamin profile of beef liver, here you go: vitamin a, thiamin (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), vitamin B6, folate (B9), vitamin B12, vitamin C, D, E, and K, omega 3, choline, biotin, calcium, chromium, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, and finally zinc (source). It is a literal power house. I even have spoken with a friend who eats it raw (frozen) every day. I will try anything in the name of beauty and or wellness, so that is probably the next route I will go when I finish my supplement bottle. Don’t worry… I will definitely document it.
Have you tried beef liver? Or I have I at least convinced you to dive into it a little more?
